Silvers on Silvercrush
Lee Kerry has qualified for the last 8 in the Drennan Knockout Cup, following a fantastic win on the Kennet and Avon Canal.
Lee managed 16lb 14oz of roach and skimmers, thanks to an effective groundbait combination Lee rates highly for this style of fishing.
"I used Sonubaits' Silvercrush groundbaitmixed very wet at four metres, fishing pinkie over it to catch a lot of small roach," he reveals. "I also fed some Sonu Supercrush Green groundbait containing some dead red maggots acrosss to the far bank and using a dead red maggot and a piece of dendrabena worm caught four skimmers to 2lb plus a pair of perch that between them went 4lb 9oz - a nice bonus!"
On the inside Lee used his Preston Innovations Absolute 14 pole with a number three Preston Innovations Original Slip number three elastic through the top two.
On the far line he used a Preston Original Number 5 Slip original elastic through the top three to tame the better fish.
Floats for the day were Preston Chiantis and a Durafloat 6 pattern for the peg across in two-and-a-half feet of water.
"On the inside I tackled up a Preston PB Silver 1 model. The hook for the pinkie rig was a Preston PR333 in a size 18 or 20 wheh they shyed off a little," explains Lee. "On the far side I used the Preston PR 355 in a size 16 with the dendrabena and red maggot. Both patterns worked superbly and I always feel confident in them due to their sharpness and reliability.
"As for the Silvercrush groundbait, what can I say? it is a supreme roach groundbait which contains a lot of ingredients that switch roach into feeding mode."
April 2011
Lee Kerry has just set a new PB match weight at Larford and booked a place in the final of the Maver Classic. Catching a mixture of F1s from open water and big carp down the edge, Lee managed 214lb 14oz, winning the match.
"I set up my Preston Gis 14 pole to fish shallow for F1s at 13 metres and the rig comprised a 9H elastic through the top two and a Preston Pink in-line dibber float, with an 0.11mm Preston Reflo Power hooklength finished off with a PR36 size 18, with a hair-rigged band," he explains. "I fed down the margins with Tiger Fish groundbait all day and could see carp bow waving every time I fed the spot.
"When I started fishing down there, the action was frantic. My margin rig was a 13H hollo elastic on a Preston Pullakit with 0.17mm main line to a 0.15mm Power hooklength, with a Preston PR456 in a size 14 finishing it off.
"When I went down the margin the action, with a piece of luncheon meat on the hook, was instantaneous. I had a five-pounder five minutes from the end of the contest, which took me through the 200lb barrier, and right on the all-out I netted an eight-pounder to cap a fantastic day."
