In a nutshell, the three-piece rod folds down to under 4’ in length. The rod is slightly softer through the middle than the two-piece version and is the better rod for smaller carp. However, you can still land monsters should one turn up. Its softer nature also makes it brilliant for the winter or when using smaller hooks.

Another thing to consider is this: The longer the rod, the further out a carp initially surfaces at the netting stage. This, of course, means time is wasted trying to tame fish which come up metres out. There is always the chance of a hook pull too, whereas with the shorter rod I keep the tip low and pump the fish towards me, lifting the rod with the fish closer in, within netting range.

On top of that, the short rod also opens up more pegs to the waggler. On many commercials there are tree branches above platforms, or vegetation at the sides – and this makes using a longer rod a problem.

"More accurate to cast with, all models have an amazing fish-playing action and offer excellent fish control when netting."
